Description

Receipt from Chysis, Egypt, written on papyrus. Issued by Aurelius Horion, cavalry man of the unit Apriana on orders of Aurelius (Valerius) Soterichos, a decurion, for delivery of 54 minus 2.145 artabas (a measure) of barley from last year's crops by Hermias, a person in charge of a granary of the Chysis area in the Upper Oxyrhynchite Nome. Anoubion, the strategos, or highest civil official in the region, and Aurelius Horion alias Apion, the royal scribe, had ordered Hermias to deliver the barley. The barley is measured with a 0.5 artaba measure, which is 1.5% larger than the old one. Dated to year 21 of Caracalla (213)
