How it works
Every search runs two queries in parallel: a full-text match across the object's title, accession number, description, and any inscription text; and a semantic-similarity query over the corpus's inscription content embeddings (1,536-dim vectors), which surfaces records related in meaning.
Text matches surface objects that contain your exact query string anywhere in their record. Semantic matches surface inscriptions whose meaning is close to your query even when no shared words exist — e.g., searching "tax receipt" finds Greek papyri attesting payment of epikephalion, even though the papyri don't contain the English word "tax."
