Petition [348]
Description
Petition from Panopolis (modern name: Akhmim), Egypt, written on papyrus. Aurelius Horion, son of Horion, writes to Flavius Nestorios, praefectus Aegypti or prefect of Egypt, through his uncle on his father's side, Ammon, the well-known scholastikos, or lawyer. Horion claims his right to succeed his father in the position of prophet (a priest) of the Panopolite Nome against the scheming of the high priest. Makes reference to an imperial rescript of Diocletian in this matter. Apparently the fee for the priesthood has already been paid. Part of the archive of Ammon. Verso has a petition in Greek (P.Duk.inv. 179 V)
