Als Ursprungsort ist Fayyūm höchstwahrscheinlich, zumal es auch im Text Erwähnung findet. Der Absender teilt dem Adressaten mit, dass er die fünf Dīnār erhalten hat. Des Weiteren erwähnt er eine dritte Person, die sich nach al-Fusṭāt auf den Weg macht. Die Eulogie am Anfang des Briefesʾakramaka llāhu („Möge Gott Dich ehren“) lassen eine Datierung auf das 9.
