Description

Kopfstützen sind aus Ägypten für nahezu jede Epoche belegt. Die Funde aus dem nubischen Kerma entsprechen einer der ägyptischen Varianten und weisen eine besonders lange Standfläche auf. Dieses Detail begründet der Ausgräber George A. Reisner mit der Bestattung auf einem Bett, welches deutlich mehr Platz als die schmalen ägyptischen Särge bietet. Solche Betten waren in Kerma fester Bestandteil jeder Hauptbestattung in den großen Grabtumuli der Elite, sind jedoch auch bei Nebenbestattungen sowie mitbestatteten Menschenopfern belegt.
