Description
Die hier verwendete Sprache und Schrift ist das Aramäische. Aramäisch ist eine semitische Sprache, die mit einer Alphabetschrift notiert wurde. Insbesondere im 5. Jahrhundert v. Chr. wurde sie als „lingua franca“ im westlichen Perserreich und damit auch in Ägypten eingesetzt. Von der Nilinsel Elephantine stammen zahlreiche aramäische Texte aus dieser Zeit, die zu der dortigen aramäo-jüdischen Gemeinde gehörten.
