Description
Die Ägypter haben sich zu Lebzeiten, aber auch darüber hinaus mit Hilfe von Amuletten geschützt. Eines der bekanntesten Formen ist das Udjat-Auge. Es ist das magische Auge des Gottes Horus, das von Seth verletzt und von Thot wieder geheilt wurde. Als Sinnbild über alle Angriffe erhaben zu sein ist es als beliebtestes heiliges Zeichen verwendet worden. Bei Verstorbenen wurden Udjat-Augen häufig im Stirn- oder Brustbereich gefunden. Die Öse an dem aus Gold gefertigten Exemplar belegt das Tragen an einer Halskette. (J. Helmbold-Doyé)
