Die modern gefädelte Kette aus dem Friedhof von Abusir el-Meleq zeigt eine Fülle an Edelsteinen. Das Wertvolle dieser Steine stellt nicht nur ihre farbige Vielfalt, sondern vor allem der mit ihrer Beschaffung verbundene Aufwand dar. Denn oft mussten sie von weit her importiert werden und galten daher als Luxusgut, das den Status und Wohlstand seines Besitzers zur Schau stellte. (J. Jancziak)
