Description

Die Kette wurde zusammen mit anderen Ketten in einem Grab in Matmar gefunden. Sie war um den Hals eines Kindes gelegt, das neben einem zweiten Kind in einem Holzsarg bestattet wurde. Aufgrund der Ähnlichkeit ihrer Form zum menschlichen Auge wurde Kaurischnecken eine Schutzfunktion gegen den „Bösen Blick“ zugesprochen. Als Gürtel getragen, konnten sie zusätzlich zum Schutz der Fortpflanzungsorgane dienen. (J. Jancziak)
