Spinnwirtel mit Lotosblatt-Dekor (Spindle whorl decorated with lotus petal)
Description
Der Spinnwirtel diente am oberen Ende der Handspindel als Drehgewicht, um dem zu festigenden Faden aus Pflanzenfasern Schwung zu verleihen. Spannung wurde dabei durch das gestraffte Führen des Strangs durch die Ösen einer Spinnschale erzeugt. Mit rhythmischen Drehungen und dem Ziehen des Fadens durch eine Hand entstand ein festes Garn, das dann den Grundstoff zur weiteren Textilverarbeitung bildete. Nach: Weber, A.; Wegner, E., in: F.
