Description
Die Leier ist ein Saiteninstrument, einer Lyra vergleichbar, und stammt ursprünglich aus Vorderasien. Sie kam zu Beginn des 2. Jhts. v. Chr. mit asiatischen Nomaden nach Ägypten und erfreute sich bald großer Beliebtheit. Während sie auf Grab- und Tempelreliefs bei Musikgruppen häufig dargestellt ist, gibt es nur sehr wenige erhaltene Originalinstrumente wie dieses, das – aus einem Grab stammend – den Verstorbenen im Jenseits musikalisch unterhalten sollte.
