Description
Gewichte hatten im Alten Ägypten in vielen Fällen eine rechteckige Form. Sie waren aus Metall oder Stein gefertigt und meist undekoriert. Manchmal waren sie jedoch mit ihren jeweiligen Gewichtseinheiten beschriftet. Auf diesem Beispiel befindet sich die Aufschrift biA 15 (Kupfer-[Deben]: 15). Dies kommt einem Wert von 15 Kupfer-Deben gleich, wobei ein Kupfer-Deben einem Gewicht von 27,3 g entsprach. Bis auf eine minimale Differenz von 0,5 g stimmt das tatsächliche Gewicht des Objekts demnach mit den antiken Angaben überein. (A. Weber)
