The scribe Amenemopet says to the scribe Pabes the following: This letter of communication has been brought to you for the following reason: Be attentive (literally: Give your heart) and become a scribe, so that you will lead all of humanity. Come, that I may describe to you a demanding profession: that of the charioteer of the chariot corps. He is assigned to the stable because of/due to the father of his mother (?; or: because of his father and his mother), together with 5 servants. Two of them have been assigned to him; (but) they treat him with disdain. He has gone to take $gw$ horses, from the camp (or: from the paddock) in the presence of His Majesty LHG. Beautiful horses have been selected for him. He is pleased and rejoices. He reaches his settlement/town with it (the team), being completely occupied (or: fully engaged) in making it trot. It (i.e. the team) does well, trotting independently (i.e. on its own, not harnessed (?)). (But) he (i.e. the charioteer) does not yet know its (the team's) nature. He has given/sold his property to the father of his mother (or: to his father and his mother); (and) he has fetched/bought the chariot: its yoke for three deben, the chariot (itself) for five deben. He has gone to trot on it (the chariot), (and) he has made it (the team) with the soles/sandals of the shoemaker (?). He has taken it (the team) and placed it in the reins; (and) he has let it into the thicket/bushes (?) (or: but it (i.e. the team) has thrown him into the thicket). His legs are cut by the reins; his side/flank is pierced with stings (of the thorny bushes). People have come to register/inspect the supply (?). He is fully occupied with toiling. (But) he has been struck down, beaten with 100 blows. The end.

Der Schreiber Amenemopet sagt zum Schreiber Pabes Folgendes: Man hat dir dieses Mitteilungsschreiben aus folgendem Grund gebracht: Sei aufmerksam (wörtl.: Gib dein Herz) und werde Schreiber, damit du die ganze Menschheit führen wirst. Komm, daß ich dir einen entbehrungsreichen Beruf schildere: den (vom) Wagenkämpfer des Streitwagenkorps. Er ist dem Stall zugewiesen wegen/dank des Vaters seiner Mutter (?; oder: wegen seines Vaters und seiner Mutter), (zusammen) mit 5 Dienern. Zwei von ihnen sind ihm zugewiesen worden; (aber) sie behandeln ihn geringschätzend. Er ist losgegangen, um sich $gw$-Pferde zu nehmen, in/aus dem Lager (oder: von der Koppel) in Anwesenheit seiner Majestät LHG. Schöne Pferde sind (oder: ein schönes Pferdegespann ist) für ihn herausgenommen worden. Er ist erfreut und jubelt. Er erreicht mit ihm (dem Gespann) seine Siedlung/Stadt, wobei er völlig damit beschäftigt ist (oder: sich voll daran macht), es traben zu lassen. Es (d.h. das Gespann) macht sich gut, indem es eigenhändig (d.h. selbständig, nicht eingespannt (?)) trabt. (Aber) er (d.h. der Wagenkämpfer) kennt seine (des Gespannes) Art (noch) nicht. Er hat seinen Besitz dem Vater seiner Mutter (oder: seinem Vater und seiner Mutter) gegeben/verkauft; (und) er hat den Streitwagen geholt/gekauft: seinen Deichsel für drei Deben, den Wagen (selbst) für fünf Deben. Er ist losgegangen, um auf ihm (dem Wagen) zu traben, (und) er hat sich/es (das Gespann) mit Sohlen/Sandalen des Schusters gemacht (?). Er hat es (das Gespann) genommen und es in die Zügelleine gestellt; (und) er hat es in das Gestrüpp/Dickicht (?) ent/gelassen (oder: aber es (d.h. das Gespann) hat ihn ins Gestrüpp geworfen). Seine Beine sind zerschnitten von der Zügelleine; seine Seite/Flanke ist durchbohrt mit Stichen (des Dornengestrüpps). Man ist gekommen, um die Versorgung (?) zu registrieren/inspizieren. Er ist voll damit beschäftigt, sich abzumühen. (Aber) er ist zu Boden geschlagen, geschlagen mit 100 Hieben. Ende.
