What Pepu sends to the mistress Sobek-hetepu: A thousand subordinates upon greeting (?) through the favor of Hathor, the lady of Atfih. As for this (pl.), for which you have sent [...] regarding what this speaker has done concerning this thief - that was also the corresponding instruction. But worse than any matter is what is done in the residence. Has the hearing of a thief ever been ordered by anyone other than the chief of police? But the chief of police cannot hear the thief if he has not been caught by him. However, if someone requests that it be reported in the presence of this royal servant, he should provide him/herself with further details. Thus, there will be no one who will be defiant against him/it. As for this report that I spent the day lamenting because of this, not coming ... after I came out of ... . Was dieses(Pl.) anbetrifft, weswegen du ausgesandt hast [...] dem, was dieser Sprecher bezüglich dieses Diebes getan hat - das war auch die entsprechende Anweisung. Aber schlimmer als jede Angelegenheit ist das, was in der Residenz getan wird. Ist denn (jemals) die Anhörung eines Diebes seitens irgendwelcher Leute außer dem Vorsteher der Polizei angeordnet worden? Aber der Vorsteher der Polizei kann den Dieb nicht anhören, wenn (er) nicht gefasst wurde durch ihn. Wenn aber jemand bittet, daß man es in Gegenwart diese s königlichen Dieners berichtet, soll er ihn/sich mit weiteren Details versorgen. So wird es keinen geben, der gegen ihn/es trotzig sein wird. Was diesen Bericht darüber betrifft, daß ich den Tag deswegen klagend verbrachte, nicht kommen ... nachdem ich herausgekommen bin aus ... .
