Source of record: Walters Art Museum (Egyptian) — catalogued by the holding institution. View the original record →

Description

This steatite scarab is inscribed on the underside in sunk relief with the royal "solar filiations" title in a Maat-related phrase. The back in incised with a simple design with short and aligned side-notches and a deeply incised head section. The workmanship of the piece is rough and it is poorly made. The piece functioned as an amulet with royal motto and divine provider individualization, and was originally mounted or threaded. The amulet should provide its owner with the support of the king, as well as of Amun.

For the latest information about this object, Scarab with Royal Solar Filiations Title, visit the Online Collection of the Walters Art Museum.
