To Ammoni[us] Paternus, centurio , from Syros, son of S[y]rion, also called Petekas, from the metropolis . My brother and I have measured in the month of Payni, the state grain dues, which we owed, as well as what was imposed upon us on behalf of the contributions in the village of Karanis, nine artabas of the ten artabas . On account of the one remaining artaba the collectors of grain taxes , Petesis , son of Tkelo, and Sarapion, son of Maron, and their scribe, Ptolemaios, with their assistant, Ammon[i]os, as well, came up and into my house, while I was in the field, and snatched the himation away from my mother and drove her out with kicks . Since, therefore, she is confined to her bed as a result of this [and] is unable to , I request that they [be brought] before you, so that I receive justice from you. Farewell. Physical description established . 47 years old, with a scar on his right knee, saying that he does not know letters. Year 33 of Aurelius Commodus Caesar, the lord, in the month of Payni, 8.
