In the sixth year of the Emperor Caesar Gaius Aurelius Valerius Diocletian and the fifth year of the Emperor Caesar Marcus Aurelius Valerius Maximianus, Greatest Conquerors of the Germans, Pious, Fortunate, August, in the month of Audnaenaus Aithnaenaus, on the 20th of Athyr, in Ptolemais Euergetis, of the Arsinoite district. Aurelius Cornelius Conius Pasio, son of Lollianes, from the village of Philadelphia, about thirty years old, with a scar above the step of the left foot, acknowledges [...] Aurelius Heron, a veteran honorably discharged, residing at the village of Dennei, to have received from him the same Cornelius the use of new wheat with an [additional] half of twenty-eight artabas and eight measures, which must also be returned to him, the same Cornelius, during the current season, clean, free from pebbles, with the transaction becoming his both from the same Cornelius and from everything belonging to him just as from justice. This simple security [document] I have made out for you upon the signature of the person who signs on my behalf, being illiterate, which also shall be valid everywhere, enforced as if publicly registered and having been questioned he acknowledged. Aurelius Cornelius, I acknowledge holding the same wheat with an additional half of twenty-eight artabas and eight measures, and I will repay within the term as prescribed and having been questioned I acknowledged. Aurelius Phanius, son of Akousilaos, wrote this on his behalf, being illiterate.
