βασιλεῖ Πτολεµαίωι χαίρειν Θαµ. ἀδικοῦµαι ὑπὸ Χαιάπιος καὶ Πάσιτος τοῦ ἀνδρὸς αὐτῆς τῆς ἐν Κροκοδίλων πόλει. τῆι γὰρ ζ τοῦ χτοῦ ιε ἔτους λοιδορίας µοι γενοµένης πρὸς αὐτοὺς ἐν τῶι ἐµ Μέµφει τῆι µικρᾶι ζυτοπωλίωι ὑπελείφθηνἀπελείφθην προσβαλλοµένου τοῦ ἀνδρὸς αὐτῆς τεχαι αὐτουειναι κηατο ὀψίτερον ἐπηνάγκασέ µε ἀναβῆναι τη προγεγραµµέν οστνοµωπ τστα δρα δραχµ- λε καὶ παραπορευοµένην µ’ ἐλοιδόρησαν ρ τύπτοντες πυγµαῖς εἰς ὃ ἂν τύχοιέν µου µέρος τοῦ σώµατος καὶ τὸ ἱµάτιόν µου ἔρρη ξαν αι χοτεεραξ. δέοµαι οὖν σου, βασιλεῦ, εἴ σοι δοκεῖ, προστάξαι Ἀφθονήτωι τῶι στρατηγῶι γράψαι οἷς καθήκει ταῦτα ἐπισκέψασθαι καὶ ἐὰν ἦι ἀληθῆ µοι τὸ δίκαιον καθότι ἂν συγκρίνηι ὁ στρατηγός, ἵνα ἐπὶ σέ, βασιλεῦ, καταφυγοῦσα τοῦ δικαίου τύχω. εὐτύχειTranslations (1)
To King Ptolemy, greetings. Tham[...] I am wronged by Chaiapios and Pasitos, her husband, in the city of Crocodilopolis. For on the seventh day of the month, in the fifteenth year, after an insult was given to me by them in the small tavern in Memphis, I was left abandoned. Her husband assaulted me, too, and forced me later to pay the amount written [..] drachmas, and as I was walking by, they insulted me by striking me with their fists wherever they could hit my body, and they [tore] my cloak. Therefore, I beg you, King, if it seems good to you, to order the general Afthonetos to write to those concerned to investigate these matters, and if they are proven true, to ensure that justice be done according to what the general decides, so that having fled to you, O King, I may obtain justice. Farewell.
